The Field Museum announced today that Sue the T Rex, their premier attraction has become the new face of Osteoporosis in an unprecedented 5 year, $10 million dollar deal. The deal, signed with Merck to promote Fosamax, their osteoporosis drug, is the first of it’s kind for the Field Museum. In exchange for the sponsorship, Merck will receive a large plaque in the main lobby, and the ability to hand out samples of Fosamax and other drugs around Sue’s display.
“It was an easy decision for Sue to become the face of Osteoporosis, as she’s our biggest attraction, and a perfect example of bone health,” said Brock Foss, who works for the Field museum." He continued, "Sue may not have osteoporosis herself, she can help to bring awareness to others who do, such as Dan, the velociraptor in our larger dinosaur exhibit." The money will help bring more traveling exhibits to the field museum, such as Minions: The Fossils, Fantastic Bug Encounters II: Those Fuckers in your Pantry, and A Complete History of Toilet Paper.
Merck is just as excited as the Field Museum to enter this partnership. “We're not saying that if you take Fosamax your bones will also last for 67 million years, but we're also not not saying that,” said Merck spokesperson Matt Morgan.
Along with the Sue Osteoporosis endorsement, several other corporate sponsorships are in the works. These include the ancient Egyptian Mummy exhibit, sponsored by Sephora, the ocean animal exhibit sponsored by Bumblebee Tuna, and the microscopic world exhibit sponsored by Viagra.
