Transparency Win! Governor Pritzker Expands Visiting Hours for Incarcerated State Officials

SPIRNGFIELD, IL – It’s a new day in Illinois! Governor J.B. Pritzker announced today that he would expand visiting hours for state officials currently in jail to make the Illinois government more transparent.

“The people of Illinois deserve to have access to the public servants that represent them at the state level,” said Pritzker. “That’s why I want to make it possible for any Illinoisan to walk right into whatever state correctional facility they are currently serving a sentence in and talk with them about the issues we are facing through a thick glass partition.”

Pritzker’s new direction comes at the urging of government transparency watchdog groups, who found that most Illinoisans had never even visited their elected officials in prison. The move was met with applause from Springfield’s currently non-incarcerated legislators, many of whom could face ethics investigations at any minute.

“This is a great day for the people of Illinois,” said Speaker Chris Welch. “Through this action, Governor Prizker is ensuring that taxpayers can hold their politicians accountable even after they get indicted and convicted for massive pay-to-play corruption schemes.”

As of press time, the Illinois State Police offered no comment on the move. However, they did reveal that several incarcerated elected officials were under investigation after ComEd appeared to bribe them with 10,000 pre-packaged hard-boiled eggs from the commissary vending machine.
